Tire Recommendation For 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon 1991

Curious what you folks might think are a good tire for the captioned vehicle. It is in Florida, will never been driven in snow or ice (hopefully). Usually a back-up car at second home. Could be drafted for a trip from FL to TN if the need really came up. The tires on it have been there for a LONG time. I figured this would be the best place to get an accurate answer.

Thanks

Volvo 240 series: 1975 thru 1993: stock 14" rims--- as you have on your 1991.
    Tire size:
    Wagon - 195 70 14.
    Sedans - 185 70 14

I've had these running for many years, on a wagon that used to get driven 8 to 10K per year and now barely gets 2000m per year.

you can use this link to find prices

as well as other brands in this size.

Get a set of General Altimax RT43. Best tire out there for the money. Got a set on my '92 940.

        +1

General Altimax RT43 - Not Michelin’s but a great affordable option! Had them on my very high mileage 2002 Passat. Only difference between them and my previous Michelins was more noise.

          14' General Tire AltiMAX™ RT43 1991

          Hi Mr. Walker and Folks,

          I can't find a 14" option for General Tire AltiMAX™ RT43.

          https://generaltire.com/tires/passenger/altimax-rt43

          Yet found on Amazon here:
          https://www.amazon.com/General-AltiMAX-RT43-Radial-Tire/dp/B00E5B25RG/
          for 73$ each.

Walmart says out of stock. Yet hire rated for load and speed.
          https://www.walmart.com/ip/General-ALTIMAX-Arctic-12-185-70R14-92T/688073687
          for 80$ each.

Edit: Oh, Wally World is a snow tire Altimax. D'oh.

Sort of interested in the tire. Found, so thank you.

          Touring not rated for M+S.

Tires For 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon: Wheel Size, Budget? 1991

A good cheap quality US-made tire is the StarFire Solarus. M&S rated.

Some may install the same tire yet with 195 width at the same sidewall profile of 70. You can get a higher load and speed rated tire at 195.

Amazon sells these for the same price should you choose delivery to home. I pickled up from Wally World.

You can buy from Walmart or Amazon. The Walmart spin balance is ever more often garbage.

Consider a better tire shop for the mount as these may use better tire balance machines that use a roller press to the tire to more accutraley counterbalnce for tire imperfection.

Else, a quality not so cheap tire is Michelin. I can't find 14" Michelin now.

    195/60x 15? I had those on rims from a 740 & they worked fine

195 60 r15 are great on virgos( after having at least 12 240s favorites) .But even thought i had access to many 740 15" rims i
could not bring myself to use them because 740 rims have a little bit less offset
being a bit anal (i believe its only 1/2" less) i could not bring myself to narrow the
240 track even more.I even used 205 on rears, yes staggered liked the feel.
That being said 195 70 14 are just fine,i especialy liked tires with nice grooves
      like goodyear eagles.
After 20 yrs of loved 240s slipping into E46 BMWs felt just like home just
      smoother, wider,lower Shorter expiry date.

        Shorter expiry date, LOL!

Virgos have an ET of 20 mm whereas the (e.g.) Dracos from the 700-series are 25 mm. That's 5 mm or almost 0.2" less inwards for the Virgos.

I know from experience with Dracos under a 245 that that is enough for one rear wheel to slightly rub the inside of the wheel well on 195/65R15 tyres during extreme spring deflection.

DAmm i passed on a lot of dracos, they probably would not have rubbed with 195 60.On the other hand i did manage to hoard 20 or so virgos as 240s rusted away, peoply were almost
giving them away on 200$ rust buckets,I did use205 60 15 onthe rears with no rubbing.
Miss the days of interchangeable parts with no electronics coding.
