Vacuum hose routing for '93 245 200 1993

I'm trying to install a factory Volvo o.e. cruise control unit from a 1990 240 sedan that I chopped up years ago. I'm installing it on a 1993 240 wagon. Everything is hooked up except the vacuum hose to the pump under the hood.
Where does the vacuum hose come through the firewall into the engine compartment so I can place the rubber hose on the vacuum pump ?

Seems like a simple question for some to look at their '90-'93 car see where it comes through the firewall.

      Ron J ,
Thanks for the advice for the cruise control vacuum line hook-up. I have it all hooked up and will test it tomorrow. Thank you.
Now, I need to hook up a small Volvo tach that goes in that hole next to the radio. Funny, I can't find the black plastic surround for the tach with 2" hole in it.

        1993 240 Cruise control doesn't work ! 200 1993

Recently I have installed a 1990 cruise control unit in a 1993 245 that never had cruise before in it's 28 years. The cruise control was from a '90 240 sedan that I owned since new and retired at 424k because of rust issues. The cruise always worked properly for 30 years.

Now, I have installed it in the '93 I believe correctly but it doesn't work. There are install instructions on the internet indicating that there should be a orange wire that attaches to the double spade terminals on the back of the instrument cluster, I can't find a loose orange wire for this purpose....just a small pink and the white/red wire that goes to my new 52mm small tach. I see there is a orange wire within the big plug-in for the computer box so I would guess that is why there is no loose orange wire. I have adjusted the brake pedal switch with any success.
What else should I look for ?

          1993 240 Cruise control doesn't work ! 200 1993

          Hi,

I see you are working with a 1990 cruise control and want to put it on a 1993.

I have a ‘93 with cruise but I do not have access to it for the summer, otherwise, I could look on that car for you. I have realized that they look interchangeable as well.
I would like to add a cruise to either my automatic 1992 or my manual 1991.
I have picked up most of the parts to try that!
Did you ever find the clip-in surround window for the tachometer? I might have a spare laying about someplace I can spare to lose!

I thought I would warn you and advise you to be careful about plugging anything onto the back of speedometers. Especially, any loose and unidentifiable wires as this has caused speedometer failure on earlier models.

Now with this said, I have noticed things about the 1992 and 1993 model years having different speedometers than earlier models.
In fact both these cars vary in wiring and component location from my 1991, in several ways.

I suspect and have no proof that but, As far as I can tell, the cruise controls use a signal given out from the ECU that was processed or passed on over from the electronic speedometer.
I have also read that the 1992-93 models also have some connections making the idling or performance of the car change?

So if you cannot find the orange signal wire connector on the back of the speedometer it probably doesn’t use one from there!
Don’t go adding anything to the cluster that wasn’t already on it from the factory.

I suggest you look along the harness coming back from the cabins passenger side of the car where the ECU and ICU hang out up on the firewall inside there.

Please verify anything you find over there and don’t trust blind faith.
There should be someone someplace on the board that can help you!
Dave Stevens and Art Benstein have extensive experience in taking the cars apart and analyzing them up the wa-zoo! (:-)

Maybe they will slide by soon or change this thread into another thread topic?

          Phil

            Phil,
Thanks for the suggestions on what to look for with this cruise control dilemma.
One thing that I failed to mention previously was that on the back of the instrument cluster where the double male spades protrude out , there was a small piece of yellow heater like hose placed over the spades from the factory.

Another observation is that maybe there should be a yellow loose wire attached to the speedo after taking off that yellow heater hose. I previously mentioned a orange wire which might be incorrect.

Phil, Thanks for the offer on the 52mm plastic black plastic surround for my tach but I just ordered one from Flea-bay.

            Have a great 4th ! -Duck

Feel around on the driver side next to the fire wall and you shoud find a flex conduit with a little rubber dunce cap on it. I put a hole in the dunce cap so no watter could leek down th conduit. You may have to feel around, it's kind of hidden.

I'm guessing for the "feeling" for the cap is from inside under the dash or under the hood ?
Where would it be near the steering column , gas pedal or ?? left or right of those?

Some sort of proximity would help.

      Thanks, Duck
