Wanted: Greenbook for 1993 940 900

I just returned to RWD with a 93 940TW and I'm searching for the Greenbook.
There's nothing on Ebay, and old links from the Brickboard search engine are
dead or Googlified resulting in no joy. I could only find short excerpts from the Greenbook online. My local Volvo dealer and Tasca told me they no longer sell the Greenbook ?

If someone has the part number for the 1993 940 Greenbook that would help.

Thanks, Bill

Wanted: Greenbook for 1993 940 900

Hi there, for lack of a better handle, "Mr Beh" I'm impressed!
Thanks for the sterling effort.

I'm searching high and low for the Volvo wiring diagram.
Ebay
Abebooks
addall
worldcat.org
archive.org
and calling around

I saw the 92 and 94 and expect that stuff keeps coming and going, so I'll keep
looking.

It's interesting that the Wayback machine indicates 1993 Volvo 940 data that's been suppressed.
My assumption is the search engine monopoly has decided to monetize the old files. Governments may eventually realize the danger of a monopoly in search engines, but likely will ignore the problem after a traditional non-traceable consideration (Bribe) which they will then write off as a business expense.

Amen to your comment about Amerikan racism.

OTPBUS 900

I have the OTPUBS disk for the 740.

They have every service manual AND parts manual for the vehicle in PDF. There is a lock lizard thing to prevent one from copying as a PDF.

A very good investment if you are going to be working on the vehicle.

Wanted: Greenbook for 1993 940 TP32208/1 900

Hi Mr. Bithell,

I'm reticent to reveal my name on any forum.

So kittysgreyvolvo. And I'm always trollin'! Lots of web links!

I have interest in early 1990s 850 with M56 gearbox. No need for the Turbo! When I can afford it or have a garage. Or, better, a 164 or 242 or 130. Yet I love the Duett models also.

Though I share your first and last initials.

You have two Volvo autos?

So the correct model is a 1993 940 (wagon or sedan) from your original post.

The TP number is TP32208/1.

A list found here of TP numbers:

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=305754&page=2

So, what eBay has: Nothing.

So I posted the wrong link to the Volvo publications site. You buy the manual on DVD I guess. Spook may know more.

https://store.otpubs.com/volvo-original-technical-publication-dvds/

For $50 you get all 940 years in all languages.

https://store.otpubs.com/940-960-s-90-v90-models-1990-to-1998/

And the Volvo Tech Info Store: NLA in print:
https://www.volvotechinfo.com/index.cfm?event=item.getItem&item=TP32208/1

You have the Mitchell Service diagrams. I under these are inferior and are not illustrated with the process diagrams.

I used Bing, the search engine to find advertising, and not helpful google.

May need to keep an eye-bulb on google.

Alternately, ask around. Turbobricks forum member may be able to help, asking requires a login user account.

Using these search engines, other Volvo site like Matthew's Volvo site does not come up.

Sorry I can't help and deliver the same results you've encountered save for all 940 series documentation on DVD for $50!

While useful for older models, the Oz Technical Archive has nothing for in this search. May have other stuff.

https://ozvolvo.org/archive/

Try the Mitchell Service diagrams, The 1993 940 is here.

http://www.v8volvo.se/mekartips/volvo/index.html

In this thread in 2003,
https://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=617703&show_all=1
TP32208/1 is smentioned.

Questions and comments?

Like others suggest, the ozvolvo technical archive is a great repository and has lots of green manuals as free PDFs, but they're mostly for the older models. The archive is not readily accessible from their home pages so use Google to get to it. The archive is not well indexed so you need to use as few title keywords as possible and/or publication numbers to find them -I often resort to trial and error viewing.

This likely won't help you, but Volvotips.com has a number of green manuals and they are apparently sanctioned by Volvo USA. Most of the green manuals there unfortunately require Flash Player which is no longer supported or available for most browsers. If you've got an older browser installed (like Windows IE) it may still have the Flash add-on (you can even try temporarily installing the Flash add-on again, with lots of warnings, but do remember to uninstall it when you're done).

A number of green manuals, or pieces of them, are on onlymanuals.com and myvolvolibrary.info as PDFs and are free. One in particular that may help you is the complete 1995 940 electrical manual which for many purposes will be identical to your 1993. There are a number of green manuals on documents.pub for free viewing and download, including a complete 1994 electrical manual. There are also a bunch on scribd.com, including the complete 1994 electrical manual, but there are pop up ads and probably cookied limits on viewing unless you take out a subscription. You can often use Private Browsing mode to get around cookie limits and try using ad blockers (like AdBlock Plus) to get around pop-ups.

There are odds and sods of green manuals on autoelectric.ru. As long as you stay on the autolectric pages there should be no problem being on the .ru domain. These were put on the .ru domain to be beyond the reach of the Volvo lawyers as Volvo does periodically try to have their copyright manuals taken down under serious threat of action against webmasters.

Google can find many other green manuals on-line, many for free, but you may need to get a bit creative with keywords and using advanced search. When searching, if you go in through Google Images you can often spot pages of green manuals visually then go to the originating website. If you find a manual you want, I would recommend trying to download it as they are often gone when you come back many months or years later.

I tried the pub link with no joy.

Just in from

>Subject: RE: Antique literature inquiry (1993 Volvo 940 wiring diagram)

>The wiring diagrams are no longer available for this year and model. We believe >the correct book number should be - TP32208/1

Can't get more specific than that.

Now it's easier to search Big Brother's search engines with the volvo part #.

FYI Try: startpage.com, duckduckgp.com, qwant.com, bing.com, and brave.com has a new search engine. Dunno if they are more or less cooperative.

If George Orwell was alive now, his head would explode.

Cheers, Bill prev 740/850NA and 940TW since last Tuesday night. Sometimes older is better. :-)

Thanks again Dave,

Does that 94 940 file = TP32208/1 ? I want the 93 940.
That site insists on loading some unknown crapware to my system before
I can even view it. I'll need to fire up a system on a bootable CD
later to see what they have and then not pollute my daily driver laptop.

I checked archive.org and they have all kinds of manuals for everything, including
automotive. They have some Chilton's manuals for loan, Haynes manuals and others but no joy for the 1993 940. The generic manuals stink for electrical troubleshooting.

try this Archive from Oz (Australian Volvo Club)

The search bar works somewhat... the less words the better --- start with '940' for example. Otherwise --- start scrolling. Most all the 'Greenbook' sections are PDF'd for the older RWD volvos---you just have to look.

Hi CeeBee

I searched their archive with only cryptic file names and no model/year clues,
and found only 240 stuff.
Then I looked at their site and found all sorts of interesting stuff, so I bookmarked their page for checking out later.

Hi Phil,

That's a huge site, likely a Google operation. They have an enormous
collection of operator and shop manuals at $14.95 each to download.
What they don't have is the publishing info of the books. Are they Haynes or
Volvo and are they unabridged. They also have different sellers.
Here's one offering:

https://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/114562098-1993-volvo-940-service-repair-manual-93?a=538270

Does that look like the Greenbook- Volvo 1993 940 wiring diagram with 1000 pages?

This Russian site has been around for years and has part of the Volvo wiring diagram greenbook, but not including sub systems fault tracing.

http://www.autoelectric.ru/auto/volvo/940/1993/940-93.htm

Thanks, Bill

Hi,

From what SPOOK is saying, you want to phrase that you need a The part number for each booklet” inside the Green Books category.

If you bought the whole set, like I did FPR only my 1978 K Jet it came in Five different Notebook Binders that were made with Green Plastic with the Volvo name in Gold print. Maybe because they cost so much.
Back in 1979 I paid about $300 for the set!
Consequently I never bought more but have run across the information in what we call the Bentley Bible manuals. Not as well illustrated and accurate but then they are affordable!

Each Green notebook has dividers separating the notebook by Service Section Groups 1-9
Each binder holds a group category: I labeled mine on the outside, of mine, as follows to keep me from pulling the wrong one out.
0-1 = Service/Maintenance General Information
2. = Fuel Injection System and Engine
3. = Electrical System and Instruments
4. = PowerTransmission
5-9 = Wheels Frame and Body Accessories

Each booklet inside, also printed in white and green, has a Part number on the back in the lower left corner.
The numbers start with the letters TP and five numbers and a / “if” it was an update or supplement.
There is another line below these number ps with a code and Date of the publication.

The parts department of a dealer ship or even Volvo might have these numbers in a system or Microfiche.
Some people on the board may have access to the information as well
Maybe a search engine can conger up an old archive too! Not all is ever lost in the digital world if it ever got put in!
You are right things are faster, smoother and sneaky!
,
Googlfied is in progress and vaults are being created that only money will unlock!
It’s about the only thing the USA has left. The industry of its proprietary information!
That’s why colleges and universities exist and their tuitions. The word “institution” sort of says it right inside it! (:-)
They get the brightest applications to become apprentices. They work, nearly for free, to create an intellectual resource that gets held by those schools and patented or sold to the highest bidders!
The Same goes on within companies.
I have personally signed certain agreements in order to just to get hired! If I create a fixture to do something that there no other way to machine it, it’s theirs! But I made a decent living in the end and better off not so rich! I keep telling my self that (:-)
We sell our companies to oversea conglomerates and they get the tooling and throw away the rest, the people! 60 minutes found that out in one episode. It was a company Ohio that Bill Clinton authorized. The old machinery was found, in a warehouse in China, but the tooling was gone!
Guess loses things from space, routinely? They can afford it!

John Deere and Volvo used GreenBooks and are relics, used for home education of their consumers or dealers at the time! Lots of boys learned their skills from them!
Now our mechanics or a sponsor, have to pay for webinars or go into a downloading network!

It has been going on for many many years! We’re stupid in so many ways!

Get specific in what you need and someone might have a newer booklet, in a stash and can tell you a Part Number!

Phil

Dear B.B.,

Hope you're well. There is no one "Greenbook". There are various Volvo factory service manuals - each with a green cover - that cover different systems, e.g., electrical, climate control, etc. Most of these are long out-of-print.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,
