Amazon 140 gearbox mod 120-130

Good day all
Has anyone here done a conversion from the original amazon long type gear lever to the late model 140 series short version and was the conversion worthwhile?
I am busy doing some work on my Amazon and currently have the interior stripped out so it is also an ideal time to do the modification or upgrade.

I've done it. I wouldn't do it again. It's certainly possible, and it's unique (sort of) and lots of people prefer a short throw shifter, etc. But other than the aesthetic change, there really isn't anything to gain.

Of course, there are those who will assert that you can shift more quickly with a short lever. Makes sense if you're racing.

I actually thought cutting the floor up in pre-140 cars Verboten!

I got the oxy to my long throw 140 & bent it up to it nearly touches the crash pad & over towards the steering wheel, that gets 3rd up close to the wheel in my RHD car.

The long throw feels more accurate to me & has less parts to do the job & if you need to drag race just grab it half way down. Having said that, M40's are a bit weak for side-stepping the clutch at 7k....

I wouldn't do it unless I was adding a late M42 with a J type OD. I've got the long stick in my Amazon Wagon along with a D type OD. I've also got an early type P1800 extension that I could fit. It even has an extension from a Ruddspeed car to bring the gear knob up from between the seat squabs. The later one sits higher and having driven an Amazon with one of the later sticks and found it a rather mechanical change lacking in the sweetness of the long stick. I also don't want to cut my perfect rubber front mat!!!

Obviously a personal choice and you need to consider all the pros and cons.

We've done this conversion on all 4 of the 122 and the early 140 we've owned.

There are several options and we prefer to use the later more abundant 140/164/1800E shift covers over the P1800S shift covers.

We've found that it is easier to fit the new sheet metal tunnel we sell using the later shift covers.
