I got a Header from FCP 900 1993

I bought header from FCp .I ve never been able to get a solid seal against the cat.the bell section is too small & the flange slides over when you tighten it & so there is no seal & extra oxygen gets in & I suspect its clogged the Cat..
Any get that problem??

The flared end has been smaller than it needs to be,,when I tightened all the flange against the cat flange it just slips over it & so comesloose letting in extra air & so the oxy sensor gets a false reading

I hear you. Maybe you could visit the exhaust shop to fabricate a suitable sized flange and weld it to the new header. Or cut the old flange from old header and weld it to new header. Cheaper than getting a new cat.

I too bought a new header last time but the O2 sensor hole was way off than the old header. Brought it to exhaust shop to cut that part off then weld it again at proper orientation. Replaced the old header because it was warped at exhaust manifold interface plate, I always had to use 2 gaskets with sealing paste to prevent leaks.

              Dear Blindboy,

Hope you're well and stay so. If your car does not have a turbo, is it possible that a prior owner swapped-in a catalytic converter and downstream pipes from a turbo-equipped car?

That swap might explain why the down-pipe supplied by FCPEuro doesn't mate tightly with the in-service catalytic converter.

A catalytic converter made for a turbo-equipped engine has a wider opening.

              Hope this helps.

              Yours faithfully,

              Spook

Nope non turbo,, I replaced every thing header cat & muffler,,,6 years ago..flange was replaced w a new split flangehttps://www.carid.com/ap-exhaust-technologies/exhaust-flange-mpn-9189.html?view=782537
when I secured it it worked lose ,,so I finally double nutted each bolt & finally its secure BUt then it took 10 tries to start it as if the cat was clogged,,so now its stumbling & stuttering from a start,,when I get going it struggles to get up to 50 but after that it runs smooth..

    Dear Blindboy,

Hope you're well and stay so. According to the parts diagram / list in Volvo VADIS - a superseded dealer parts/service database - a "sealing ring" should go between the end of the header (down pipe) the the catalytic convertor's opening. This sealing ring is intended for use on cars with EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation).

This stainless steel "sealing ring" (gasket) is part #1266118. It costs about $6 or $3 at www.fcpgroton.com, depending on whether you want the genuine Volvo item, or one made by Stabila, a quality supplier of after-market parts.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook

Thanks ,,I do use that crush ring,,BUt the problem for a long is that the header works loose & extra air gets in & throws off oxy sensor,,
I think starla made this crap

        Dear Blindboy,

Hope you're well and stay so. If the header (down-pipe) "works loose" from the catalytic converter, I suspect: (a) you're not tightening the nuts sufficiently and/or (b) you're not using the correct nut, which is Volvo Part #948645.

This is a lock nut, i.e., it is designed not to "work loose", once it has been fully tightened. The price at www.fcpeuro.com is about $0.50 per nut.

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook
