AFTERMARKET RADIATOR BRANDS 200

For replacement rads - basically see 2 aftermarket brands - Nissens and Spectra.
Anyone have experience with these - which one is better.

Thanks

I'd go with the Nissens. I never used their radiators, but I did buy 2 condensers which, in the details, seem better than the stock ones.

My son had a radiator queef out on a cross-country trip a couple of years ago. He had the radiator replaced with a generic one at an import auto boutique to the tune of $600. At the time he could have gotten one at Autozone for less than $150 and swapped it out in their parking lot. Anyway, the thing has lasted for over 100Kmi.

I did replace a radiator with a Lifetime one from Autozone in another car that has gone well over 100Kmi with no noticeable problems.

Go for the lowest price with a decent warranty.

I had to buy the Nissen condensers from Germany via England. The price was right for the condensers, but the shipping was killer.

I believe the Volvo OEM Blackstone hasn't been available for a long time. Probably wouldn't do well with today's coolants anyway.

My knowledge is dated, but I can say that many BB'ers in the past used Nissens. Never heard of Spectra. Another option, if available for a 240, is Behr. Put a Behr in my 850 and had zero issues with it.

I just did the 92 with a Nissens from FCP. The old on was disintegrating internally and the top nipple broke off in my hand when removing the radiator hose. I'm not sure it might have been the first time it was replaced? Have a Nissen in the 93 too.

Yup, those OEM Blackstone’s were amazing! When I sold my 90 240 the original Blackstone was still going at 300k! But it was due…:)
