Can anyone tell me what type of screws hold the electrical ignition switch on? Slotted, Philips, Allen, special? What's the best tool, short screw driver, mini ratchet, etc? Couldn't find any good pictures or videos online. 311kmi and first time this has needed to be done.

Thanks. That will make the job easier. I've had to occasionally wiggle the ignition key a to get the brake and turn signals to work. This time the instrument lights and turn signals quit so I guess its time. I've been monitoring the voltmeter for a flicker to tell me when things are working or not.

Right now I'm dealing with the fuel pump relay. Re-soldered it a few years ago but has become intermittent again. I installed a bypass switch, however, I don't like having to explain how to start and stop the engine to the smog techs. That and having installed a Volvo choke cable as a hood release.

I don't mean to make light of your current issues but I once read a definition of "what defines a car with character" as -- how many special instructions are needed when someone other than you will be driving. - Dave ps-- I have cables of all sorts packed away but if your choke/hood release cable works--that's all that counts.

"Character", love it. My hood release was not an improvised repair but an aesthetic improvement. I just never liked that thing dangling under the dash. Then one day while working on the column I noticed the recess for the choke and the light went on.

Real Engineers buy their spouses a set of matched screwdrivers for their birthday.

As last I remember, they are under the push-on plug connector.
There were three of them with slotted head screws
They hold the body with the terminals and inner working system that the key and shaft turn.

It’s not something you look at everyday from underneath for sure!
Once you see it with a mirror and flashlight it’s all about feeling the tip of a screwdriver and some mental residual visions but not too hard.
