Dear zimm3,
Hope you're well and stay so. Yes! A replacement visor will have to come from a salvage yard. I'm pretty sure Volvo no longer supplies sun visors.
Be advised that the plastic mounting cans - through which pass the 8mm hex-head screws that secure the visor - come in two depths. These do not interchange. The "low" cans are 1/4" & 3/8" tall. The "high" cans are 1/2" and 5/8" tall. These measurements are approximate.
The visor's wiring connection is under the dashboard. You will have:
a) to remove the grab handle (if any) or the two screws under the color-matched plastic caps above the driver's window (the caps may be pried-loose with a small, flat-blade screwdriver)
b) to remove the "A" pillar plastic cover, which is secured by a screw, that is difficult of access. Old plastic is brittle, especially if cold. Be careful when removing the "A" pillar's extension beside the dashboard.
c) to remove the instrument cluster (see the FAQs for the procedure).
The visor's connector is cable-tied to a wiring harness. on the left side of the instrument cluster's opening. Once you've cut the cable tie, attach a length of string through the opening on the connector, through which passed the cable tie. This "pull cord" will enable you to pull the replacement visor's wiring connector into place.
Starting at the point where the wiring connector comes through the opening in the headliner, tug gently on the wire, while helping the connector to work its way past/around obstacles that you can't see. With patience, the connector will emerge through the headliner's opening.
Leave the pull-string in place until you're ready to put in the replacement visor. Use the string to pull the connector down the "A' column and past obstacles, to its connection point under the dash.
There's no need to use zip ties to secure the visor's wiring connector to the wire harness, to which it was attached at the factory.
Hope this helps.
Yours faithfully,
Spook
