93 Volvo 240 wiring for temp sensor 200 1993

Hello All,

I've got a 93 245. I broke the wire plug for the water temp sensor.

I have the two wire type.

My question is which wire is positive or negative. The wire's are exactly the same blue with a red stripe. The new plugs wires are solid black and solid red.

I put a test light to each of the original wires. I tested the wires with the engine running and not running. No light with either.

I see on the original plug there is a 1 and a 2. That's of no use to me now as I've already cut it off before noticing.

How can I find which wire goes to the red and black wires of the new plug?

Many Thanks,
HACK

Odds are the temp sensor is just a simple resitive load and it doesn't matter which wire is ground. The original connector wires would almost certainly be color coded if it mattered. If in doubt, take a meter to the new black wire and see if you have conductivity to the metal sensor housing base. If so then it's not isolated and you will want to use a meter or find a proper wiring diagram to figure out if it's connector pin 1 or 2 that is connected to chassis ground.
