Checking in 200

I can't believe I don't spend more time here. But yeah ... life and stuff.

I just wanted to share a story. Back in 2005 I bought my first 240 - a 1990 auto with awful paint - and drove it for three years until we were hit by a truck. Everyone was fine, but I decided to buy another. That was in December 2008 when we drove from Michigan to Chicago and picked up my current 1989 5 speed from a family that had owned it since new. All the service records and stuff. I gave them $2500 and have driven it since.

Last December I decided - after much deliberation - to dabble in the EV market. I've been riding scooters for eight years now in an effort to save fuel and save the planet and all that good stuff. Anyway, we drove to Chicago to pick up a 2018 FIAT 500e and the Volvo became officially "semi-retired". The FIAT is fantastic, but that's for another forum.

The Volvo sat in my Dad's garage since then while he's been down south for the winter. Last weekend we brought it home and I have to say, the only thing I could think all the way home was what a pleasant car it is to drive. I don't know if it's familiarity or the fact that my butt has shaped that seat for thirteen years, but I enjoyed every mile of the trip home. She's not as pretty as she used to be, but what a great car. I've owned and driven eight Volkswagens and not one of them had the level of Fahrvergnügen this little 240 has. Sorry, VW.

I still don't know what I'm going to do with her. I mean, we have two other cars and a truck as well as three bikes. We're kind of out of room. But I'm not ready to give up on her yet. She may just become my tinker car. Practice body work and stuff.

I made an appointment last night for a little work that I don't want to dig into (while left at a shop one or more of the brake rotors went wonky and when replacing the center support in the driveshaft the mechanic didn't line it up properly and it has the wobble. Also the parking brake is frozen). She's not worth much to anyone but me, so I'm willing to drop some cash on her that I know I'll never get back.

Anyway, just wanted to share. I have a lot of reading here to catch up on.
