My automatic door lock isn't working. I hear and feel the relay for the lock buzzing. Changed the relay out with a known good working relay. Relay still buzzing. My question is, does the lock mechanism need lubrication or is their something else I can check ?

    pull off the door panel and look for a small broken nylon/plastic clip that supports a coat hanger thickness long link between the lock motor and the door latch.

    when that clip breaks the skinny link bends instead of pushing the latch open.

      The manual part of the lock works. Trying to electrically lock all the doors only causes the lock relay to buzz. I'll check out the mechanism on behind all the doors panels and lube accordingly. 1989 is a long time since anything internal door locks been lubed. Could just be binding since the relay in trying to work 🙏

        it's not a relay or lube problem.
        pull the door panel and watch the skinny link from the lock motor to the door latch bend instead of pushing the door latch. the clip supports the link so that it works.
        please post back with the volvo part number of that clip, i went through this with my 89 740. 700 owners might get some clips before they are discontinued.

        someone might chime in if the 940 lock linkage is the same as the 700, and i'll get some clips before they are discontinued.

          I see what your describing.....My Saab 9000t had a long rod running horizontally from the forward door handle to the locking mechanism on the door jamb. Little plastic guide clip was broken......Old Sun baked plastic. The rod was flexing when trying to open the door from the inside. The outside handle was a direct connection. I've had luck with a zip tie looped through the clip hole. I'll see if I can order the clips. Thanks BB.
