PV444 Door Weatherstrip 444-544 1958

In Dec 2017 with help from the forum I installed new door weatherstrips on my PV444. At first the door was a little hard to shut but it improved with time. One problem has persisted. When opening and shutting the door, the hinge side weatherstrip gets somewhat pinched between the door and the body and the resulting rubbing has caused considerable wear and tear on the weatherstrip to the point of imminent failure. I have tried repeatedly to alleviate this by adjusting door alignment but have never really found a solution. I bought the weatherstrip from VP Autoparts from whom I have purchased Many parts and have always been satisfied. I know that aftermarket rubber seals are not always a perfect fit. Does anyone know of a good source for these weatherstrips, or a good substitute for them?

I believe I have found a solution to weatherstripping the doors. I purchased 2 rolls of MD 01025 auto & marine rubber weatherseal and applied it to the inside of the door flanges (next to the edge). This seal measures 5/16" high and 23/64" wide. I now have no wind whistles and it proved itself at the car wash. Three weeks and no problems with the peel and stick. Door latch adjustment and closing the doors is better than ever. I guess time will tell.

This strip has a distinctive form as I remember, so choosing any other form may not be the best advice. And for the alternative supplier, probably VP will be the only producer and all other suppliers will just be resellers.
Good luck anyway with the doors Michael

It's possible that this has always been a design flaw at the point where you get the bad fit/rub. Todays rubber quality isn't what it used to be so getting 5 years out of the seal at this interference point might be considered good. If it happens both sides and you decide to replace with VP items you can keep the old ones and use sections of the old ones to repair them when the time comes. If it is a particularly odd shaped section I would guess that VP is the only source but there may be a simpler section available that will do the job just as well. Comments from other PV-ers who might have had the same problem are needed.

I might agree that 5 years is about all you can expect with todays aftermarket rubber but it was never a good fit from the start with wind leaks etc that I had to patch with supplemental foam strips, etc. This car is a daily driver so I want a good seal. Thanks for your input.
