Auto-transmission lock tab when engine is not running 200 1991

I feel the transmission lock tab is stucked toward the rear when engine is off. Of course I cannot unlock the transmission and shift to neutral as before and push the car by hand.

Could it be an electrical problem ?

I am away from home and dont have access to a green book.

This is a safety device I beleive, is there an easy way to bypass that ?

The safety device preventing you from shifting out of park in a 91 or 92 is operated electrically when the brake pedal is pressed and the key is on. Unless someone broke it, you should have a manual bypass lever (yellow) just inside the shifter cover near the 1 position.

Electrical problems could result with fuse 7 or 12 being open. 7 has a tendency to crack in two with age due to flexing with every brake light operation.

Thank you very much Art, when I got home I opened the plastic cover and playing with the shifter it finally released the shifter arm.

For some reason it is a litte rough and wont release every time. I am afraid I could break that little yellow arm applying too much pressure.

I also hesitate using Pb blaster or wd40 because it is plastic.
