240 gas tank 200 1988

Hi all,
My pretty much rust free 240 has corrosion inside (the fuel tank) that is eating up fuel pumps.The present repair source informs me that I have to repair the tank and related components all the way to the fuel pump as those components are unique to that car. Really? I thought I could replace the tank with new and related components up to and including the fuel pump. Any thoughts on this?

any tank from an lh 240 will work, all the way to 93. i would get everything from the gas cap to the tank because subtle changes might have occured. even a newer kjet tank would work but i doubt finding a better condition tank in 1 of those. kjet stopped in 85 with the turbos whereas lh started in 81.
