Gas tank filler neck squished 444-544

All:
I restored my '62 PV544 and when re-fitting the filler neck extension at the top of the gas tank I noticed it was squished about 1/3rd of the round pipe shape. I went ahead and connected the rubber sleeve to the bent pipe and the filler neck. But apparently there's no way the rubber sleeve can compress tightly enough against the squished pipe to seal it, and now fuel leaks out of the gap between the rubber sleeve and the squished pipe and onto the ground when I fill up the tank. Also if the tank is pretty full, it sloshes out of the connection when driving. Not good!
So, what to do? Can the pipe extension at the top of the tank be straightened back into a nice circle if the tank is removed?
Or do I have to buy a brand new tank? The tank is good, no internal rust or scale.
Help! Anybody have an idea?

    Hi PV guy,

There's two tailpipe extender tools offered by Autozone with their
free tool rental plan. The size range is 1-1/2" to 3-7/16"
    https://www.autozone.com/loan-a-tools/loaner-tail-pipe-expander
Other chain parts stores may offer different sizes.

Muffler shops may be another good option for this job?
They probably have hydraulic tools and the know how.
The hand tools require that you have the strength of a gorilla.

Can you post photos of your car?

    Good luck, Bill

There's a tool available called a muffler pipe expander. I consists of caste metal sections with a bolt through the center screwing into a steel "cone". As the bolt is tightened the individual sections are forced outward pushing the metal back into shape. Springs wrap around the works to keep it all together. I bought mine 40 years ago--have no idea what they cost now--can't be too expensive. - Dave

Plenty on the Bay and not expensive. Harbour Freight? Do the job carefully or you could split the tube. Done that on an exhaust pipe. Suitable lengths of pipe and small hammer can also do the job.
