Windshield 1977 242 200 1977

I am looking for a front windshield for a 1977 volvo 242.

If anyone has a suggestion, that would be nice. I have not had any luck.

Thank you.

You're looking for an FW-404 but an FW-667 will fit, if you can lose the original trim and its clips, whatever they were before 1978.

What do these different codes signify, Art?

Just wondering.

I dunno what they signify. My guess is the auto glass industry has (or had) a standard catalog, where FW-404 for instance meant front window #404. Jargon they use among themselves?

I was not clear. I guess the question really is, why two windshields?

I just wondered what the difference between the two might be.

FW404 vs FW667 200 1977

Oh. Yes.

The FW404 technically is a duplicate of the windshield supplied to a 240 (and I think 1-series too) through 1990. In '91, the metal trim was gone and rubber trim glued to the window's edge is provided on the FW667. It also has a "frit," I think it is called -- a pattern of black spots in the area where the adhesive seal is placed to match the pinchweld. If you look at that link I gave, buried is a link to a glass forum post entitled "Volvo Hack Job" http://pub24.bravenet.com/forum/static/show.php?usernum=2036554146&frmid=6&msgid=850522&cmd=show providing the glass-guy point of view.

TLDR: FW404 75-90, FW667 91-93, but the 667 will fit all despite what the glass outfits will claim, though some Volvo people claim the rubber trim on some of the replacements is not wide enough and will replace it separately.

Lol has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say".
