I left the hey on the truck for the second time since 2022 and have a replacement lock.
The trunk lid lock / unlock servo had not worked, yet the power locks are out as the wire connection between the driver door pull knob power lock actuator - well - I've not repaired it so it does not short.
The trunk lid lock servo has not ever worked. I thought it did not have a power lock servo until lock replacement in Feb 2022 in dung heap Jefferson City, MO. I guess the wire harness from the relay back to the trunk lid may be at fault. The trunk lid wire harness sheath, that is attached to the US market driver side door trunk hinge (left side as you are seated inside the 1991 240) has breaks in the sheath.
A St. Louis City Dogtown neighborhood neighbor stole my 1980's Radio Shack DMM and so bought a new, from Lowes, powered by AAA batteries (stupid) DMM, yet work and fatigue of driving around the toilet states since October 2021 of dung murikkka has left me somewhat bereft of my once bounteous and compulsive need to maintain Volvo 240.
Cheyenne, WY is a toilet, also, and so is the state, well, Casper and Buffalo WY are, chock full of them CIA-DoD-Fraternal Order of Police state neo-nazis. Some called it MK Ultra up to Frank Church in the 1970's.
Of, and what the schmuck is wrong with the BB on Cloudfront with all the 503 "service unavailable" errors? Time to donate more?
Thanks.

Ahoy MacDuff,
You fixed your trunk lock, 10 points
It's not a solenoid or servo.
It is a DC motor driving a rack up and down by switching polarity to the motor.
Dunno if they use the same thermal cutout brick: "Beaver" that they use in window motors.
My 740 had all of the lock motors dead, the car must have been hit by lightning or somehow there was 120VAC on the lock motors. Luckily I could find plenty of spare parts then.
On a happy note, how's your headlights now? Are you still an LED fan?
Make sure you vote, and maybe you should do early voting to avoid getting
in the middle of some riot.
Like the cartoon said: Undecided voters ordering at a restaurant...
"I dunno if I want the Baked Chicken with the soup OR the raw sewerage?"
Tough choice!
Cheers, Bill

Hi Kitty,
Glad to see you are still alive and kicking.
I thought you were up in the Washington state area and holding down a job for quite some time now.
So what’s up with being in Cheyenne Wyoming.
If you like staying in renovations you should look up this one in Orlando, Florida.
https://www.hilton.com/en/book/reservation/rooms/?ctyhocn=ORLBCWA&arrivalDate=2024-10-20&departureDate=2024-10-21&room1NumAdults=1&check-in=20+October+2024&check-out=21+October+2024&booking-widget-submit=Check+Rates&_gl=1*119n8ha*_gcl_aw*R0NMLjE3Mjk0Njk3ODIuRUFJYUlRb2JDaE1Jdk15Ul9lLVdpUU1WcGhCMkJoMmFIakRYRUFFWUFTQUFFZ0xqVmZEX0J3RQ..*_gcl_dc*R0NMLjE3Mjk0Njk3ODIuQ0xqd2tZdndsb2tERlotYWpnZ2RJMUlZQlE.*_gcl_au*NDY3MTE5Mjc3LjE3MjkyMTgyODM.
I would say in many cases you get what you pay for but the one above things have gone nuts in this world even if it’s near Disney’s Fairytale Land.
Disney is a constant renovation but it’s not Kansas is not Kansas anymore!.

I thought I had better get in my last thoughts to you or about you before the Brickboard goes down the drain as Art, and BB- Bill are expecting to happen.
There’s a lot of our time and souls built into its archives.
Common sense lived here as with the “older Volvos” had been built upon.
About you …
I have to decipher your posts nearly every time you are on here.
I have wondered how you can write text for service manuals, as an occupation and keep the creative side of changing words @ bay. How you keep from getting that habitual playing around from getting mixed up with in the technical writings?
Could it be a reason for so many job changes or you don’t like living in one place very long?
You seem to not like any place for long.
Maybe easily bored and caught between to society mismatches has made it hard to be happy.
I feel for you man having to keep employed in being a writer of sorts of which I don’t really know what you do.
Phil

Apologies for commenting on a thread where I have nothing to contribute with regards to the question.
I feel compelled, however, to show solidarity in the issue of regular (and seemingly increasing) instances of page not loading. I, for certain, would never contribute financially to a site where I can use it maybe one third of the time. I sound (and feel) like a freeloader with that sentiment, and only keep returning here because the advice and help is SO DAMN GOOD.
So yeah, raise the uptime, and maybe create different tiers of member ($10 seems a tad steep, although I have to admit I probably get more than that in return if I'm encountering an issue. Then again, Turbobricks usually comes through when I can't stand the wait here, which sometimes runs days long for me), and I'd open my wallet. Right now, this site is running on thoughts and prayers. It really sucks, to put it bluntly. I hope it's still here a year from now, because it's such an asset to the community. If one is patient enough. Four years ago I walked away from corporate IT (where I supported websites and managed web services/servers, among other things), and have since lost patience for most everything tech.

Art Benstein near Baltimore
A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation in Jerusalem . While they were there, the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, "You can have her buried here in the Holy Land for $150 or we can have her shipped back home for $5000. The husband thought about it and told the undertaker he would have her shipped back home. The undertaker asked him, "why would you spend $5000 to have her shipped home when you could have a beautiful burial here, and it would only cost $150????" The husband replied, "Long ago, a man died here, was buried here, and three days later, rose from the dead. I Just can't take that chance".

OM Dawg after like awhile, I'll tell yeh hhhwhut, Bobby, the thing responds.
Banging on your Zenith chock full fo valves (vacuum tubes) to get a UHF channel to see the first run in US Dr. Who, the Tom Baker years, in the late 1970s!
I get http errors 503 and 504. CloudFront is an AWS distribution system. Yet the errors indicate a problem getting a response from the source, the actual server instance that contains brickboard, I guess, within the AWS or source instance. Jarrod had the entire site on a server in his home before then. Must have been rather pricey then. Yet way cheaper now. Dunno if more secure.
The adverts and the advert JavaScript schema now appear disabled. Yet I re-enabled uBlock Origin some time ago on this site as the advert were annoying and intrusive, like dawg-awful Windoze 11..
You'll need You uBlock Origin lite for Chromium browsers as Google is evil and MS Edge is terrible and now a Chrome browser. The Chromium project is enabling a third extension platform that will exclude and disable the second extension platform. Please use FireFox.
Still use Opera 12.18 x64 bit without Javascript to get to read website newspapers as they use JavaScript for ads and to put up a join membership pr paywall unless they control access on the server side and not the web client.
Jarrod told me he's moving his brickboard his brickboard to the cloud now some years ago. Yet smarky-smarmy-mark's facespacebarfbook is trying to take over or shut his brickboard down starting in some more recent years ago?
Maybe iy ios the CIA of Democrappnik party? We can blame Alexander Poopin' the malodorous and his FSB. Add some MI6 to it.

I think you've pretty much nailed the BB server issues, Kitty. Using Amazon's Cloudserve, the 503 timeout messages suggest the BB is still on Jarrod's home server that's connected to the edge of the Cloud on the cheapest connection he can subscribe to, rather than actually being hosted on a Cloud server. If his host server can't properly and promptly respond with both the web page info to be delivered and all the Google Adserver stuff to go along with it that he's subscribed to (in order to help generate revenue) then it times out and we get the 503 error from Cloudserve. The Google servers soon remember all these 503 errors and start giving an immediate 503/504 error even though other browsers can occasionally still get through. I notice that the BB server ping response itself is typically 13 msec, which is perfectly fine, while a traceroute has a number of timeouts. It's getting the whole web page assembled and delivered to us within the timout period that's the main problem.
I think this means the BB server needs one, actually more of the following: a faster host server, a more expensive Cloudserve account with a longer timeout, choosing to cut back on the sise and number of requested Google Adserve ads to be displayed, more efficient web coding, or altering the task priority within the host server as Jarrod likely has other web applications running on it. It's almost as if the BB is strictly a background task on his server, which wouldn't surprise me.
No matter what, there's way more to the story here than people continually blaming Google for all of the recent BB problems. I wrote Jarrod some time ago about this asking what's going on and haven't received a reponse. No question this is a low priority in Jarrod's world and there's no revenue worth discussing to justify making improvements. I fear the BB has long been on it's last legs with only a few dozen of us regularly particpating.
In recent weeks I've had to resort to using a bare bones old version of Win IE (a Win 7 Explorer version) in order to get more than a 50% success rate of calling up a post, also depending on the time of day, although within the last 3-4 days things seem to have notably improved and I can occasiuonally get through with Chrome under Windows. I'm thinking Jarrod may be doing a bit of tinkering this long weekend, so let's all cross our fingers for some long needed improvements no matter how many ads get delivered.
