Lumbar Support & Heated seat back not working 700 1990

I've read some of the archives, and i am still not 100% confident that i can take care of this .

My lumbar support "snapped" last week, and the element on the back portion of the seat is out.

It's not clear what tools i'll need, and what the process is after i've disassembled the seat.

Replies are deeply appreciated. i wanna get this done this week before it gets really nasty out there.

Re: Lumbar Support & Heated seat back not working 700 1990

I am having the same trouble with a 1991 740. Where is a good place to buy replacement lumbar supports and seat heater coils?? Any thoughts

Re: Lumbar Support & Heated seat back not working 700 1990

You obviously will have to pull the seat out. The trick here is to slide the seat forward after removing the four bolts which anchor the seat. There are shouldered pins on each seat rail which fit into keyed holes in the chassis. Once the seat is out, you need a good pair of diagonal pliers to cut the hog rings that secure the upholstery, and you will need the hog ring tool and hog rings to re-attach the upholstery. The broken parts of the lumbar support will be obvious. You most likely have relay (leather seats only), or a broken heater element. Make sure you've got 12 volts to the seat heater and go from there.
