heater fan removal 700 1988

Is it necessary to remove the ECU in order to pull the heater fan assembly on an '88 745? It seems almost impossible to access the screw closest to the firewall without moving the ECU.

Yes, leave it connected but just unbolt it and swing it over to the side, out the door slightly.

I decided the ECU had to come out. It's not hard, but ground yourself to the car first so you don't "zap" it with a shot of static (standard precaution with electronics).

Re: heater fan removal 700 1988

if the heater fan is anything like the fan in the 240 (doubled ended shaft), mark the fans blades before you remove them, so you can put them back where they belong. they have no markings, and can be put on backwards (they will blow some air backwards, but not much)
