Strut mounts

My '89 244 needs new strut mounts - the rubber is all cracked. It also needs new strut cartridges (the left one is leaking badly). Lots of clunking in the front suspension, hopefully fixing the things that are obviously broken will take care of all the noise.

There was discussion some time back regarding which brands of strut mounts to avoid due to early failure. I can't find anything in the archives, so can someone please remind me which ones are bad? Besides Volvo OE, is any other brand OK? Who makes Volvo's OE strut mounts?

Look up Scan-Tech USA andsee what you think of their parts.

Although they don't sell to the general public, many on-line parts and retail parts places carry them.

There were some patterns of failure alleged to have occured with a popular 3-letter Japanese brand as well as those supplied by a Volvo aftermarket place (they might be one and the same on this part?). Personally, with anything as inaccessible as the upper strut mount only Volvo OEM is good enough for me. And from the right discounter, no more expensive.
