164/145 dash 140-160 75

What year did the 140-160 models change the dash from the faux wood to the early 240 type w/ round vents and clock. If I am looking at a 145 with such a dash is there a good chance it is a 74 or 75?

Re: 164/145 dash 140-160 75

Yes 73 was the year. Only thing I want to add is that the tachs are not interchangeble bewteen 4 cyl and 6 cyl. Unlike aftermarket tachs, they are hard wired to one or the other. HOWEVER, they will operate, but give you dangerously false rpm readings. The local independant volvo shop got this wrong in my dad's 240, and the b21 build-up in European Car was of an egine that had been blown up due to this.

I believe the 240 style dash in the 140's started in '73.

I believe the "faux wood" (foxwood?) was only used in the

164. The early 140s I have seen all had black panels.

Re: 164/145 dash 140-160 75

I thought the "wood" was only in 160's, but I could be wrong! I have considered adding the wood to my 142, although I am now considering doing something a little more original. Carbon fiber, anybody?

Re: 164/145 dash 140-160 75

Took a look at a 72 145 with the wood dash and gauge cluster over

the fuse box. My 68 144 has the black and my 70 164 has wood (don't

know about the aux gauge cluster as a PO sort of modified things).

So some 140 cars had the wood dash instead of the black. I think it

just looks silly.

Re: 164/145 dash 140-160 75

Yup...1973

Along with the biggie bumpers, ugly plastic grilles, rectangular tail lights on the sedans, orange paint...etc...etc....

(OK...the bumpers might not have been too big until 1974...not sure about that one....)
