Can an 850's front brakes fit a 244? 200 1977

Can an 850's front brake set(rotors, calipers) fit a 244?If so are there any modifications to be done or is it a straight foward job? Thanks

Re: Can an 850's front brakes fit a 244? 200 1977

I looked. Ain't gonna work. Huge expensive time consuming mods required. (Almost like it wouldn't be safe to try)

Why? (just curious)

As the other fellows say the 240 brakes are good and can easily be upgraded to great. My 245 stops on a pin head.

Why?Can't find any drilled or slotted disc for it here (Malaysia)so I figured the best way would be to upgrade to 850's brakes. But apparently its not such a good idea.

:)

Thanks anyway

Can you get stuff from Australia? I Think they have some brake stuff down under. 240's aren't THAT popular in Aussie, but there are some. 1977 240 in Malaysia..you have a classic!

Re: Can an 850's front brakes fit a 244? 200 1977

What kind of a set up would you reccomend? My brakes are in terrible shape(for a Volvo).I have a fairly new master and servo pump, but my brakes still feel mushy and they seem to be getting worse. The brake hoses are also new.Should I completely flush the brake fluid and change it?The mechanics in my town are hopeless,so i hope you guys can give me suggestions so i can at least tell them what to do.

For sure flush and fill with DOT 4 fluid.

I like the Ate atomic rotors up front, good pads all around. You may need new/rebuild calipers. No leaks but mushy...something ain't right.

My disc are all solid disc's.Do i need to change the calipers if change the discs to vented one's?I saw the ATE disc's on thr IPD website.if my budget permits(current exchange rates are a bit high at the moment $1=4 Malaysian Ringgit)i'd like to get a pair. What do i have to change if i get those disc's?Can I use the vented ones? Thanks

IPD lists the ATE grooved rotors for vented ($65ea.) and solid ($59ea.) front rotors.

If I were in the same situation I'd just get the solid ATE grooved rotors, unless the calipers needed to be rebuilt, which would a good time to upgrade to vented rotors.

I still have some left over Renmimbi...oh that won't do you any good!!

Seriously you'll need to change calipers to use vented discs, but that will be a NICE improvement.

Check with IPD and see if they will ship to you. They sell slotted rotors for the 240.

I did.Only problem now is the shipping cost(which i'll be able to confirm soon0 and mode of payment.I'm a student, with no credit card.So i gotta look for an alternative way to pay for them. The prices at IPD are quite reasonable,i have to admit.Anyone using those slotted disc? How are they?

If you have solid front rotors, consider upgrading to the vented front rotors found on turbos and all 240s starting around '84.

Re: Can an 850's front brakes fit a 244? 200 1986

I have an '86 240 and a '96 850, and (excepting the fact that the 850 has ABS) I think the braking response of the 240 is superior, due to it having 4-piston fixed calipers in front and 2-piston fixed calipers in back, versus the 850's floating calipers all around. Given a choice, I would opt for newer 240 calipers. Rebuilt 240 calipers are easy enough to get -- I got a rear set for about $60 apiece a couple of years ago.

Re: Can an 850's front brakes fit a 244? 200 1977

With money, I guess anything is possible.

I doubt if it is straightforward, however.

Geometry diffo, fwd, too.

Generally, changing this would at least require changing out the strut and balljoint and location rods...and the 244 has different attachment points.

FWD is designed to attain certain geometries under load or pull, RWD designed to attain them under different load, i.e., push.
