head gasket repair 700 1989

Help Need pointers on replacing head gasket 89 turbo. What machine work etc needs to be performed? Whats the best way to have head checked for cracks? Whats a good price for the machine work and the gasket set? If I have the work done whats an average price for performing the work? Labor and parts? Thanks all

Re: head gasket repair 700 1989

Had a cracked headgasket and warped head (both as a result of overheating) on my '89 780 Turbo. I purchased the parts myself (intake & exhaust manifold gaskets, head gasket, new belts, new hoses, and thermostat) for around $150 total, then had the labor and machine shop work (the head had to be planed) done for around $300. Not cheap, but better than continually replacing radiators on the side of the road (I can now do that job in about 45 minutes w/ the tools I carry in the car)
