idle adjustment 900 1993

HAPPY NEW YEAR all in volvo land! I seem to have a problem setting the idle on my 1993 945t.When i bought the car it was idling too low ,and when cold ,would not fast idle, would stay around 700rpm.I adjusted the small stop screw on the t-body,fine got it up to around 850-900 rpm.Now when its cold she starts right-up and goes up to around 1400rpm and slowly comes down, the problem is that when the idle comes down its a different speed each time i start the car, then seems to flutter up and down.I cleaned all the connections ,but no help, does this sound normal?????????????????????????? and is the fast/cold idle speed a concern for a turbo car?????????? THANK YOU!

Re: idle adjustment 900 1993

There is an EPROM update for these cars to account for oxygenated gasoline differences in cold weather which cause idle problems. Call the dealer to see if it applies to yours. This has been reported several times at this site and the EPROM update seems to clear the problem.

By the way, adjusting idle with the stop screw is not a good idea on LH2.4 cars. Better to clean the throttle body, make sure you have no vacuum leaks, re-adjust the throttle position switch correctly, and baseline the idle setting procedure per the FAQ or your manual.
