Pinging 200 1987

240Gl wagon 1987 efi, experiencing pinging underload or full open throtle from standing start. Running premium fuel. Knock sensor working well.

If vac advance disconnected, motor has no performance.

Check your exhaust manifold gasket. If it leaks a bit, you will have the symptoms you described (pinging sound under load, but not at idle).

hows the timing belt? also tune up parts: cap, rotor and plugs maybe wires too.
