Imjector seals 700 1985

Could anyone tell me how check for a leaking injector seal; are they difficult to replace.

Thanks,

Bob Hanbury

    Re: Imjector seals 700 1985

The most popular way is to take a propane torch (not lit) and place it near the seals. If the engine speed goes up, the seal is leaking. I also have used WD-40 sprayed around. The seals come as kits with new injector caps and spacers but you must re-use the old spacers because the ones provided are the wrong size (figure that out?). The best way to remove the injectors is to remove the fuel rail with the injectors from the intake manifold as one unit. Then remove each injector from the rail. Use penetrating oil to help remove the injectors from the manifold.

    Hope that helps.

    Rene

I am thinking about doing this also and I was wondering what is involved? timewise? Cost? Do I need any special tools? I will do the work myself.

Can you explain the "Propane Torch" method?

      Thanks for your help.

All you need is a 10mm socket and a 14mm and 17mm wrnches to undo the fuel line. Using a screwdriver or some other kind of prybar, gently pry the injectors out of the manifold bacause, in my experience, they were quite stuck in there. Do not use the fuel rail to pull the injectors out because it is quite fragile.

Basically, the idea behind the propane is that if propane is sucked in to the manifold (through a vacuum leak) the engine speed will increase. I like to use WD-40 to do this insead of propane.

The seals are inexpensive from the dealer.

        Give yourself an hour.

What Rene said is good stuff. The propane torch, NOT lit allows a leaky injector to suck in burn-able propane instead of air, that's why the engine would react faovrably. My question to you and others is - what are the symptoms indicating injectors needing cleaning and/or re-sealing on a B230 engine? Good Luck, Bob
