Timing belt replacement 200 84

Hi. I plan on changing my timing belt next week with the help of my friend (a 120 owner). i was just wondering if there were any significant differences between his engine (he put a B20 into his) and mine (a B23F I think). Also, in the IPD catalog there is a kit for the timing belt and a set of seals. is this my best bet, or am i better off just going up to pep boys or something. thanks a lot. you guys are a lot of help.

Re: Timing belt replacement 200 84

/// The kit will require removing the crank gear if it includes the three shaft seals on the b23. The b20 is a gear drive not belt drive but the location and engine parts serve the same function.

Hint: it will move the work along if you drain and remove the radiator for the extra room. It also reduces the probability that you will accidentally pull back and hole the radiator.

Might also consider replacing the timing belt tensioner if the bearings are loose. Aftermarket from folks liks IPS is approx $30.

/// Good point. I have six volvos and none have had that bearing fail. It is a good idea to check it and look for stains that the seal on the bearing has failed and started leaking.
