Air mass meter 900 91

I've posted a message about my 940 dying out. I replaced the radio relay today and it runs better. Now I disconnected the AMM harness while the car was running and nothing major happened. Is this an indication of a bad Meter? I also got a code in position 2 of 2-3-2 while the engine was running rough. Thanks for any help ... Jeff

Re: Air mass meter 900 91

Don't underestimate the power of cleaning the mass airflow meter's contacts, on both the harness and the meter itself. I've solved many a problem that way.

But then again, i've also replaced a couple of MAF sensors (or AMMs whatever you want to call them) and that too can fix the problem. They aren't wildly expensive either.

The prevailing wisdom is to plug-unplug the AMM with the KEY OFF. Otherwise you might damage an otherwise good AMM or ecu.

Re: Air mass meter 900 91

If disconnecting the AMM makes the engine run better then that makes the AMM a prime suspect, otherwise (as in your case) the test is inconclusive. Check running at idle and accelerate through ~2000+ rpm. The best way to check an AMM is to swap with an identical good unit. Also, it's not a good idea to connect/disconnect the AMM (or any other ECU sensor) with the ignition on. These components are too expensive to risk frying accidentally.

Your 2-3-2 FCU fault code (as I recall) is for running too lean. You cleared all codes after replacing the system relay, right? If the check engine light is not on then it may just have been a momentary condition so clear the code a second time just to be sure. A flaky AMM is only one possible cause. Carefully check for vacuum leaks -crack in air supply tube, disconnected or split vacuum hoses, leaky throttle body gasket. A bad fuel pressure regulator could also cause this. Other people may have some other suggestions for you.
