Clunk in rear suspension 200 1981

Hi, i have an annoying clunk in my rear suspension over large bumps. It mainly seems to be coming from the drivers side (right hand side) rear suspension. Only 1 week ago i had the 'diff bushes' (i think they are generally called lower trailing arm bushes) replaced by my volvo workshop. They are the ones below the axles just inboard from the rear wheels that have to be pressed in. The clunk didn't go away. Are there other bushes that may need to be replaced? Could it possibly be dampers (it is getting a tad floaty in the rear). Any other suggestions. Thanx in advance.

The bushings below the axle that you replaced is usually the culprit for what you are describing. Don has a good point. this has happened to me. all the goodies under the spare tire cover somtimes gets loose and clunks/shutters when hitting pot holes slowly and just going over basic bumps. Make sure everything is tight under the spare tire cover, I wrapped my jack in an old shirt. It doubles as a rag if I need one.

Check in the trunk (or storage compartment) for loose stuff. Also check in the spare tire wells for loose stuff like jack, lug wrench, etc. that might be bouncing around.

If a wagon, check the tailgate—they can make quite a racket.

A loose shock (top bolt going though frame) will hammer like hell on small bumps.
