No reverse lights AW70 200 1984

I have a 1984 240 GL with a B23F and a AW70. Problem is i have no reverse lights. There is no power going to the lights. Is the switch bad? How do i fix/replace it.

Re: No reverse lights AW70 200 1984

I had a similar problem with my 84 240 DL and bought a new backup light switch for the transmission before I found out that the fuse was just corroded. I cleaned the fuse and contacts and the lights work fine. With 199,3XX miles on the car, I have done this two or three times. I use the backup light problem to let me know when I need to do general maintenance on the fuse block.

The backup lights are on fuse #12. Good luck.

Re: No reverse lights AW70 200 1984

The switch is part of the neutral-park system that prevents starting in a gear other than Park or Neutral. It's in the well at the bottom end of the shift rod, accessible from inside the car. Check for voltage there, with ignition switch in proper position. This is ssuming that the fuse is OK. BTW, fuses (in Houston anyway) always oxidize so about monthly B4 starting I open the fuse cover and use a finger tip to rock every one to clear oxide away. Otherwise, weird things happen, like dying on the road. I have the Volvo manuals for 1984 240, get back to me if you need more info. Good Luck , Bob

Re: No reverse lights AW70 200 1983

as far as these fuse problems are concerned, there is no reason why you guys should have to be dealing with this. if you switch to the glass buss-type fuses, the corrosion won't happen anymore. i cleaned the fuse block and added a conductive goop lightly to all terminals, then installed the new fuses. it has been set up this way for three years now and i have never had any problems since. hope this helps.
