GLT at "Pick Your Part" 200 84

Hello

Just got back from my local - Pick Your Part- I spotted a 240 GLT in their holding yard. I talked to a guy at the desk and he said the car would not be put into the general public yard until tuesday morning. I tried to bribe him for at least the Turbo wheels, but he said I'd have to wait til tuesday ( for 15" aluminum wheels they charge only $14.99 Canadian - thats about $9.00 US !) So I'll try to get the wheels and the sway bars.

Besides the wheels and the sway bars what other parts should I take ?

Karl

Wow, I want all those parts you guys mentioned. I think it's pretty obvious that I should try to buy the whole car. I'll go there first thing tomorrow and see what kind of deal I can come up with. Thanks for the input !!

GRAB THE B 23 E IF IT IS ANY GOOD !!!!! I'd also camp out to make sure I got the rims if they're going to let them go that cheap. Also- pull the ambient temp gauge, the grille (blacked out with offset logo) If it's got the dealer installed power suroof option- grab all that shit too- pretty rare.

If you're the first one at it, I'd make a list of all the stuff you'd need and try and pull as much as you can. Those cars tend to get stripped fast.

If it is an 82 or earlier take the cylinder head and cam, this engine was either the 136 hp or the 140.

Re: GLT at "Pick Your Part" 200 84

If it is one of the intercooled cars take the cooler, shroud, support brackets top and bottom, the hoses from the intake to the IC, the metal elbow at the intake, the bottom support and bushing for the oil cooler, the large silicone elbow on the exhaust side, the boost solenoid on the fender and maybe a few more bits I have forgotten. With these parts you can upgrade a non-IC car. If you can get them fairly cheap, that is.

Pllk for an ambient temp gauge or oil temp gauge, check for IPD sway bars and if you do find one of those leather wheels with Volvo R-sport on it......jump and holler when it is yours. Yhose are worth a pretty penny ($100-200) and even a torn one can be wheel skinned easily. In case you do find a wheel be sure to take the hub. Carry a deep 1 1/16 socket to remove the wheel.

Re: GLT at "Pick Your Part" 200 84

Hey Paul,

I know where there is a 1981 242 GLT for parts available right now.

It is in Nelson (a bit of a trek, I know) but it's got 159,000 Km's, B 23,

4 speed O/D standard- body shot, interior bad, apparently ran before the guy parked it, 5 spoke rims, he was going to sell the whole thing to me for $250, but I moved, so passed it up. Also, check the Buy & Sell, there was a GLT for parts around your neck of the woods posted this thursday.

If interested in either let me know- I wouldn't mind checking if there is anything I need on either car.

Re: GLT at "Pick Your Part" 200 84

Hi.

I have a 1982 GLT that i'm taking apart for my 1990 244 as reserve parts. On the 82, there are extra gauges that I don't have on the newer one. You may find the same there. Only problem is pulling out the wires and actual "sensors" for each gauge. Second, look at the steering wheel. Could be of smaller diameter and in leather. Third, check the brake rotors, (disks) they might be fairly new if you need some.

I'm shure if you look long enough you will find more usefull stuff.
