Weird wiper problem 700 1986

Appreciate any direction with a weird probelm I am having with my wipers. They work fine for about the first 15 minutes. The intermittant feature fails then the slow setting will no longer work which leaves me with just the fastest wiper speed. Am I looking at a new motor? Thanks in advance.

Re: Weird wiper problem 700 1986

I had and have same problem. watch out there are two kinds of motors used. one has one wire lead and the other has a two wire lead. There are magnets that get loose in there per other postings. I slid the outside metal casing sleeve down a little and jammed a plastic tooth pick in there and for some reason it worked fine for about 2 weeks. This reinforced magnet theory. I located a bone yard that would sell one for about 30 and rebuilds on internet for about 90.

Since such a pain in the neck to get to I decided I could live with fast wipers and rain window treatment stuff for the lighter rains.(drops just roll off the windsheild. Pretty cool).

get the name off the current motor.Hope this helps when ordering replacement.

Mark

Could be a ground fault. Try adding a ground wire. Remove the cowl piece and add a ground wire to 1 of the motor housing screws, and a good chassis ground.
