rear shocks-wagon 700 91

Two questions about replacing rear shocks on the wagon: Does anyone know how to access the top bolt on the shocks (don't see access from the spare wheel well inside, and it's tucked away from underneath the car); and can the job be done by jacking up one side at a time, or must entire rear end be lifted for both? Thanks

    Re: rear shocks-wagon 700 91

My car is an '85 760 turbo wagon. I believe yours should be not much different from mine.

If you jack up the rear, say the left side, and remove the wheel, you will find a rubber plug about 2" or so in diameter in the wheel well. If you look at the shock's upper end, there is a bolt that is holding it. This bolt is accessible after you remove the rubber plug (with a flat screw driver or by hand).

Is your car equipped with regular shocks and with an axle? If yes, I believe shocks can be replaced one at a time. There is no alignment problem associated.

I have done it as described above.
