Oil in throtle body normal? 200 89

This weekend I took out the throtle body to clean it (170k). It was all gunked up very badly and sticking. Even though the 'volvo dealer' charged me $60 to clean it 10K miles ago. I don't think it was ever cleaned. The gunk was about 1/8 think in some places. I got it all cleaned out and it's nice and shinny now.

Oh and major tip for any one who wants to clean one. DO not remove the TPS senor. And if you do MARK the screw positions. It's a bitch to reposition it. Also remove the throtle linkage with the body. Do not disconnect it. You will not need to do any readjusting.

Anyway the question, I drove the car about 500 miles, some what aggressive highway driving (NJ) and inspected the throtle.

It's coated an oil layer. Is that normal?? (just put in new pcv nipple and hoses).

The car drove fine, actually I put in new plugs and dist and cap and it felt so so much firmer.

Bad oil trap? I put a few drops of Gunk engine cleaner down in (engine off) and drained the oil. I've been meaning to clean it.

Should I just do it right? Remove the intake manifold. Clean out the oil trap. I would like to clean the intake manifold too.

The intake on my turbo gets an oily film from the pcv. There isn't much

to do about it except clean it once in a while. I do only clean it about

every couple of years or so but it hasn't affected operation even when it

was dirty. As long as its not using oil to the point where you notice the

amount on your dipstick I would not worry. Living in Jersey the area does

try to destroy your car but you can keep the forces of destruction at bay.

Haroon,

I wouldn't worry about it. I have an 88 with 206K on it and I believe the oil in the intake system just comes with the territory (high miles). I have to clean that car's throttle more often but it is a small price to pay.

Dhop, I pulled a . . .

Checked the oil dipstick and have a little too much oil. I'd just changed the oil. What do you know. That's what caused it.

It's hard to pour oil from the big 5qt containers.
