Altenator Bushings, tips advice on changing? 200 1982

My alternator is no longer holding the belts tight. looks like the bushings in the mounting are toast. Is there any tricks or special tools needed to replace these bushings? I have them on order and plan to swap em out this weekend, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks as always.

Chuck....

/// The top one is in the adjuster arm. The bottom two can be replaced from below without removing the alternator. Disconnect the battery any way.

In Alabama we don't have engine compartment snow shields on the bottom..

      You're kidding?

With another Nor'Easter expected here in Northeast PA Sunday, I'm thinking of putting little skis on the bottom of mine!

    Chuck -

While you are "in there" look over the wiring harness condition, especially the lead to the oil pressure sender. Easy to fix with alternator out. Be sure to get all 3 bushings. I found that a thin film of ATF on the bushing and in the housing allow me to hand press the new ones in. It's an easy job unless your back fails after a lot of fender leaning. Be sure to check the brushes, too. New brushes can fend off the purchase of a new alternator. Good Luck, Bob

As Jason wrote, no problem at all. Just disconnect your battery before starting. You don't want tools welded to the car.

No tricks, no special tools - the bushings will come out fairly easily with a little persuasion from a screwdriver. The new ones will press in with a strong squeeze from a pair of pliers/vicegrips.
