I got this 86 760T Intercooler I took to turbo off today broke a lot of the studs doing so, It looks like the shaft is in 2 pieces and a lot of play , there is that rod below the unit It look like it open and close some thing, it is frozen. My questions are 1, can this unit be rebuilt? Or should I be looking for one at the bone yard, 2, what kind of price am I looking at 3, I have a B230F engine I could drop in this brick, I have never driven a working brick turbo so I would not miss the turbo. I would be most grateful for your input on this matter.

I would replace the turbo with a rebuilt or known good unit and make the turdbo car a real turbo.

If the the turdbo in there is toast just replace it - you won't need to fight those studs. Just use new studs and lots of antiseize. It SHALL

If you have never driven a turbo, you are missing a real experience. You can go to a bone yard and get a good used one or get yours rebuilt. The broken studs can ce a real challenge, especially in an aluminum head.

Check around for a turbo, used or rebuilt. As long as your engine is ok, I would fix it.

Dick, Thanks, The studs that I broke are all on the turbo all 3 for the exhaust flange and one below (engine block bracket to turbo) All the nuts for exhaust manifold to head came off with out any problem. Any idea on the cost for a rebuilt or bone yard unit?
