Swapping a 85 760 turbo engine & tranny in a 87 -740 non turbo 700 1987

I have a friend of mine who has a 1985 760 turbo with only 80K miles on it, trashed the body on a telephone pole and is getting rid of the car. I was thinking of swapping the engine and tranny into my 87 -740GLE which has 220K miles on it. Are the engines and trannys the same? (both are automatics) Any idea how hard the swap would be?

It is a bolt in swap if you have the donor car, but a great deal of work. You will need to change the transmission, as the turbo car uses the AW71 rather than the AW70 or ZF22 transmission used in the GLEs. You will have to move the battery, add the intercooler, oil cooler and lines, exhaust, engine and xmsn, drive shaft and shifter if GLE is ZF equipped, the engine wiring harness and fuel injector pack, as well as the fuel injection ECU. The turbo boost gauge will need to be added to the instrument cluster, as well as the under dash over boost switch will need to be inserted in the fuel pump circuit. The ignition control module is also different and will need to be changed. It is just a question of how much work you are willing to go to. I almost forgot, the turbo cars use a different ratio differential.
