front end clunk 700 1991

Last year I replaced the following...ALL rubber bushings for front end,

ball joints ,shocks,boots...what was NOT changed are the upper strut bearings, tie rods, steering rack. NOW after a year there is a clunk

on the right side...not a rattle like a bad tie rod...I do not get it driving straight , nor do I get it over speed bumps or rough roads.I get

under the following conditions.During reversing with a turn, after driving

straight ahead then turning left or right....and occasionally and I mean

occasionally during braking. It seems to take the weight of the car to

get this clunk as I tried prying here and there and was unable to obatain

the clunk with the car jacked up..Any suggestions fellow Bricksters?

Paul:

Check the rear transmission mount (and engine mounts while you are at it). A worn out trans mount can cause a clunk like the one you mentioned.

Good Luck

Strut bearing noises usually occur on turning, so you might look at the strut bearings. How many miles on the car?

Thans for replying Steve. The car has 91000 miles on it.Just to clarify

I do not get a series of clunks....like clunk,clunk clunk...just a single

one. Also its occurrence is totally random..I do not get it every time I turn.
