Hood will not open. Help!! 200 1985

This morning when I went to open the hood to change the oil it refused to open. There had been an increasing drag when pulling the release, so it was in the planning to check that out too.

I still managed to remove the radiator grille with the hood closed but cannot get the hood lock to open. The lever where the release cable is attached to is simply stuck. It does have some play though - maybe about 2 mm. Any ideas?

TIA

Fernando

Re: Hood will not open. Help!! 200 1985

On my 83 I had the hood slip out of alignment at the rear hinge. I gout the grille out and after trying to force the latch open (not pretty) I managed to unbolt the latch mechanisim form the body and it came loose. Check and see how your hood lines up. If it is askew that might be the problem. Mine shifted so much the post that goes into the hole in the cross memeber was stuck in there...

Good luck

Press down on hood over the latch section while someone else pulls hood release from inside. This should reduce pressure on latch so you can pull hood up.
