removing factory amp 700 1990

I would like to remove my factory amp since I have an afermarket cd player in my car now (1990 760). I know I should just leave it be, but I want to make my own powered subwoofer and would like to use the factory amp to cut costs. Is there any electrical item that runs through the amp? or will it be a clean remove?

    Charles -

I have seen these now-surplus Volvo amps sold on eBay. They are presented with 1 or 2 pics, and have the wire harnesses on, and other wires tagged.

Depending on the amp number, I might have an interest.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Re: removing factory amp 700 1990

I did this on my 86 740 was pretty damn easy, normally when a new radio is installed they use the pre fab fittings that fit right into the current wireing, when they do this it bypasses the amp anyways and normally they just leave it hanging there since the amps are volvo only amps there not compatible with other radios, i would take a look chances are its sitting there doing nothing, if thats the case just unscrew it and pull it out, i did that exact thing when i put my new radio in, the only problem i encounterd were the rear speaks were not on the harness and were seperat so i had to cut those from the amp once that was done i cut the amp out and threw it away. good luck.

    Charles,

So long as you have re-wired your speakers so they don't go through the amp, just literally unplug it and pull it........unplug it, see if everything still works (only audio goes through, or +12v), then pull it if everything is sweet. You shouldn't have to cut wires, everything has a connector (from memory) Have fun!
