My car has very poor pickup lately. I tightened the kickdown cable a little, checked the tranny fluid. Are there some other things, I can check myself?

How many miles are one the engine? Is yours a turbo? I just had the BG44 induction cleaning done on my B230F. And, I ALWAYS run the top grade petro (91 - 93 octane). It has, from what I gather, about the best pickup it's gonna get for a non-turbo. Hope this helps.

The car has 173,000 miles; it is not a turbo. BTW, what exactly is an BG44 induction cleaning?

A BG44 induction service is a two part fuel cleaning system. There is a pressurized fuel cleaning that cleans the piston tops, and valve tops off (this restores the combustion area for a well dispersed combustion dispersment) as well as cleaning the intake passages. Then, there is an additive to place in the fuel tank. This is for cleaning the injectors. Total cost was about $100 USD and approximately 1 hour.

You might also consider having the timing checked (under load and at idle). If the timing is off enough, you will notice poor performance. This is an inexpensive check as well. Good luck and report your findings on the board.

Bob have you thought about a tune up? also adding some injector cleaner wouldnt hurt either. also useing annything less then 92 with a turbo or 89 with a gle gas wise will cause poor preformance.

I had poor pick up at lower speeds,replaced the distributor. This got rid of the problem.
