Dipstick plug...

How can i disconnect the dipstick tube to the transmission fluid pan. The car is an 87 240. It seems stuck and i want to apply more sealant. Thanks

Re: Dipstick plug...

Michael-

You'll want to be patient when doing this. It's very easy to kink the filler tube, and distort the drain pan. I'm having level reading problems because of an over-agressive mechanic. Bent my filler tube. Live and learn I suppose.

Re: Dipstick plug...

Thanks for your help, I finally did get it off, it must have been seized up. But i did not strip any threads. I'm reinstalling the gasket and filter so hopefully that will stop my leak. If not, off to the next pan. Although i think it's only the tranny and that even very slowly. Thanks again, this board is very useful.

Re: Dipstick plug...

If you mean the big threaded coupling, you need a big mutha wrench. Sometimes you also need a big mutha acetylene torch. That nut seems to bind on corrosion.

After you get it apart, be sure to put never-seize grease on the threads. That'll assure that you never need to disassemble it again.
