Doh, my ac 200 89

Where do add 134a (converted)?

I screwed up already by opening a vent on the drier (next to the radiator, with glass window), thinking it a cap to a nozzle. Whoozing. Cap (just a little loose) flew off in a 'mini explosion'.

So I'm all out of gas. Also should I add 1 can of oil?

Low side fill port on the compressor. There has to be a R134 port somewhere on the low side. If not, add one like rhaire said.

If you're contemplating other work, this is a great time to do it. Like putting in a new receiver-dryer. Inexpensive, has great results. The oil charge should be fine if it was just the gaz that got out. If you change out the receiver dryer or some other parts, consider part of an oil charge, at least.

I did the same thing once. I thought there was no more refrigerant and let it all fizz by mistake. I'm sure the neighbors wondered what all the racket (and the swearing) was about.

New reciever drier? How much do you think it is?

I think I have a leak too, so I'm leaning towards changing the o rings too and that sounds like a good option.

Last summer the ac was barely keeping up with 134 fully charged when it got above 90. My paint is black and it really fells like an oven.

Re: Doh, my ac 200 89

The receiver-drier is about 20-25 bucks from most of the Internet suppliers. I just put one in (and a new expansion valve) when I switched over. Easy to put in, just get some new seals when you do it.

I think that the 134 does at least as well as the R12 did, although I was never really impressed with the R12 airconditioning around here (NC summers). I am thinking about putting in a little pusher fan in front of the condenser (behind the grille). That is supposed to help a lot, especially at idle and tooling around town.

I have also looked at a product at WalMart called Maxcool, which is said to improve the performance of R134. for five bucks I might try it.

BTW, when I replaced the expansion valve I took out the evaporator from underneath the dash (surprisingly easy to do) and found it caked with what looked like a solid layer of dog hair (PO, I'm sure). So I cleaned it off pretty well and blew it out with compressed air.

Good luck!

Re: Doh, my ac 200 89

You should have a blue capped low side R134a fitting that is characteristic of the fill port. It may not have been installed. You can add it, the fitting or the R134a, at the compressor (passenger side port). If the system is now down you might as well add one or the T type port at the drier. How much oil is now released, roughly? It might be nice to estimate or add a can of the 134a/oil charge. I am doing the same as soon as I get a 780 hose rebuilt.

Don't know. Just a lot of gas, the ac was not running. Didn't see what came out, I hit the ground at the 'explosion'. Not alot of oil coating on the drier, though.
