Smoker's car, can you get rid of the smell? 900 92

When we purchased our 92 965 it had the smell of carpet cleaner solution. We never suspected it was a SMOKERS car!!! Ash trays were prestine and the car had no burn marks. Two weeks later it started to smell expecially when the AC is turned on. Now its been 15 months and the damn smell still has not gone away. Is there a filter or something that can be replaced to get rid of the smell?

/// How much trouble do you want to go to. Most vent piping is removable. It can be removed and washed out. The AC evaporator radiator has a drain and can be carefully sprayed with cleaning solvent. Do not exceed the drain capacity or the cleaning solution will run out in the floor. Look for plugs under the carpet so you can drain the floor.

I got a product called "febreze" from my local parts store; spray it on, let it dry, car'll smell of laundry for a couple of days, but the smoke smell seems to be mostly gone. I did also spray the headliner and down the air outlets. I think it's made by P&G. I've also seen it at supermarkets.

I'll second this message on Febreze (sp?). I've removed smoke and mildew smell with it very successfully. It won't cost you much to try it.

And if you don't like the laudry smell, it now comes in a formular for automotive use, don't know what it smells like, but probably not as flowery.

If it was a smoker's car, look directly above you at the headliner. Most smoke will congreagate on that fuzzy liner of the 965. It may be able to be cleaned. I like the ozone generator idea, too. But frankly, I have never been in a smoker's car (my wife's included) where there wasn't some evidence from smoking... always a burn somewhere. I wonder whether the A/c has something wrong with it....

Try Odor Eliminator. That's what hotel's use. Otherwise a large piece of cheese and a small fish left under the driver's seat for 90 days will disguise the smell.

Maybe check the phone book for Fire & Water Damage Restoration companies. I have seen some use ozone generators to remove burned plastic (wiring) small from large buildings.

(I'm about ready to call them to held get the mildew smell out of my junkyard car)
