headlight conversion 700 1989

Hi all

Thanks you all who helped me on that last bit of questions I had about the hood. I currently have a black hood with a small scoop over the cone filter that I use on non-rainy days. Swapping a hood out was surprisingly easier than I thought...

Anyways, to the question:

I'm getting tired of staring my 4-eyed Volvo in the face before every work day, and am looking to give it a face lift. Any ideas on if the 940T front end will fit on mine? The one with the integrated fog lights looks nice, like the 760T wagons post 1988 or something like that. I have the grille already, but am wondering if the headlights and fogs can be forced to bolt on in the existing holes, or if I'm gonna hafta go crazy with a drill and a hacksaw.

Thanks

Ryan

Re: headlight conversion 700 1989

Check the Tractor pulling centre website, they have a process of doing the conversion there.....if you want to put the "integrated fog light" headlights (900 series) then you need

headlights, blinkers +"day running light", side fenders (both left and right), possibly, if the fitment isn't right, you'd need a bumper to match the side panels (from 940), possibly even a new bonnet and a 940 grill..... The TPC website covers the entire conversion, although, it only covers going from the single headlight set up to it, not going from the 4 headlight set up....Give the page a look anyway, and you'll see what i mean....

You would be much better off converting to Euro spec lights. Get the flush look AND you'll be able to see better. alleuro.com has them new, and used sets come up for sale occasionally.

Re: headlight conversion 700 1989

I've looked into the Euro conversion, and quite frankly it looks ugly as sin (like an 850 that got punched in the face). Sure it looks unique, but it's on or about $600, illegal in my state (we have state inspections here, they check the lights for DOT and SAE approval among other things) and not as attractive (in my mind) as a 945T with the integrated fog lamps... of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

I am wondering if anyone's done such a conversion. I checked the archives this morning for a good hour or so and didn't see anything about it

Thanks

Ryan

Re: headlight conversion 700 1989

Hey,

i'm no pro at body swapping but as far as i understand the 700/900 "chassis" were all the same so that most parts should bolt of and on from one model to the other. I concluded this becuase i saw an 85 740 converted to a 96 960 so i suppose they are the same. I would further saw that the front is almost surely the same structure but the rear might be different. I know this doesnt help much but i figured why not tell em what i know.
