My local Autozone has AAMCO brand synthetic ATF with a Mercon IV label. Will this substitute for Dextron III that is required for the 960? Anyone ever seen/used the AAMCO brand of ATF?

From the specs you give, sounds like it would work fine in your 960.

Personally, I'd be inclined to go with a full synthetic (AMSOIL comes to mind first, then Mobil 1) rather than a blend.

Thanks Dick. You are probably right. I originally read it as being all synthetic.

Does it say Dexron on the bottle? If not, nope. AAMCO? I wonder who makes it for them....another company sees the value of synthetic...I wonder why only the Mercon, and Mercon IV at that.....??? Lemme investigate.

I went back and looked at the stuff. It says Mercon V (not Mercon IV) on the label. On the back label it says that it surpasses Mercon, Dexron II, IIe and III (and can be used in power steering pumps labeled for Dexron or Mercon). It is also "made and distribed by" ExxonMobil of all people! It is labeled as a synthetic blend.

Appreciate any info you know about it.

Indeed it is an Exxon product (and was prior the Mobil merger). Nothing really special about it.

Sorta answered your own question. It'll work,but why bother? Use a full synthetic ATF.

Thanks for checking around. I am going to read the label more carefully, but I think it did say for cars that required Dextron II and III. I'll get back to you later after I go back to Autozone.
