Difference between Paint Code 406 & 406-3? 700 1988

I found a place that mixes Paint by Paint Code. My Paint Code reads 406-3(metallic blue) but the Body Shop only had 406(metallic blue). Is their a significant difference? If there is, What is the difference.

    From the official website:
    Some cars will have -1, -2 or -3 in the paint code, such as 100-1. The -1, -2, -3 refer to a different shade of the colour. -1 being a lighter shade and -3 being a darker shade.

    So its just a darker shade of 406.

      How about a link to the official website? It was my belief the dash number was a reference to the paint supplier, but I have nothing to support it.

        I thought the dash number had to do with whether clear coat or not and if yes, the type of clear coat. Yet here:

          Hi,

          Good information for all who own Volvos.
          Shame your paint store guys didn’t figure that one out.

          He might have to take a painted part of the car into them and have the color recognizer tell him what to do.
          Otherwise the new generation is lost as thumbs are dumb!
          If Siri doesn’t suggest it, the brain freeze sets in.

          Just says, a “Thinking Hat” isn’t being supplied or homegrown any longer.
