Learning the parts 900 95

Can anyone lead me to sites that educate me on the parts of the volvo (come with pictures or sketches). I read the FAQs and could not understand many of those parts of the cars that were mentioned. I know I experienced some of those problems talked about and I am seriously thinking about doing the servicing and repair job myself. It is much cheaper, at least I won't be taken for a ride, changing parts that are not really faulty.

Since I bought a used Volvo that didn't come with a owner manual, can anyone tell me where can I download or read it online. I know there are many such FAQs but those links I went to did not exist. My car is a 940 non-turbo version.

Thanks.

The Leg Bone's Connected to the Hip Bone.. 900 95

    Oh, the car!

There is a fairly decent book put out by Haynes, for distribution in the United Kingdom only. It is an excellent resource for a guy, such as yourself, who wishes to do basic maintenance and repair and who may not need or want full engineering and remanufacturing documents.

The book was available for a time from IPD in Oregon. When I bought one for my wife's car, it was 50% off. I believe the normal price was $30.

It might even be worth a lot more each time you skip the repair shop.

Be warned, the terminology, nomenclature and engineering conventions are strictly British. But if you already know your 'Boot' from your 'Bonnet' you are well on your way. It also looks like you might be outside the USA, or possibly new to it. If so, perhaps you have no old habits to break anyway.

Good Luck! That is a very nice car.

Lets not forget the silencers and the dampers.

That book should be compulsory reading, save me from writing Americanisms, and at least those times I'm not talking complete cobblers people would understand me;-)

        Regards

"...not forget the silencers and the dampers..."

This is true, and usually repaired using a spanner, particularly those gudgeon pins. I have a whole collection of Whitworth and BS spanners...

And now, having contributed some important Volvo content, it's almost time for a, er, uh, cold one, straight from my Lucas frig.

Hmmm. They're not cold anymore. I wonder if Lucas relays are as reliable as Bosch relays?

        Time for a warm one.

LUCAS means "Let's Use Candles And Sparklers".....this came from a friend who does body-off restorations of old Jaguars.
