Air-box/breather-box -- different or the same thing? 900 94

I had the oil changed in my Dad's 944 wagon, and (when checking the air filter I guess) found the "breather box seals" were no good. My question is, is abreather box the same thing as the air box which housed the air filter? Also, where on the air/breather box are all the seals -- how many are there? Thanks for any help. They wanted a good sum to replace the seals, and if I can figure out exactly what and where everything is wrong...I'll do it myself! Thanks!!

Re: Air-box/breather-box -- different or the same thing? 900 94

Not the same. The air box houses the air filter. The breather box is a black oval/box contraption under the intake on a shelf on the left (driver's) side of the block at the rear under intake runner 3 and 4. It is connected to the flame trap, if you have one (ie non-turbo). Bad seals? It sits on two O-rings and is bolted to the block with 2 12 mm bolts. I am not sure how they arrived at this but I bet it was just a revenue generator. I doubt they had a close look. I have never worried about the o-rings on mine.
