Quickie Non-Volvo (Sorry!) Question--Power steering 200

Hello, everyone. Just a quick question here-- My sister has the Buick Regal. Her power steering was making sounds, so I checked the level of fluid, and found it to be very low. She was in a rush, so she went to a local gas station, and asked a kid to put in fluid. He just dumped the entire bottle in, and did not check the level. The steering is working well, but our question is: are there any major negative consequences if the reservoir is over-filled? Can she get by a while, or is it urgent to bring back down to proper level? (I know we gotta find the leak, and if it is a big leak, then this is all moot).......TIA!

P.S. Don't worry! My own Volvo GT is fast generating Volvo-related power steering Q's.....I will post them "in turn"!

I don't know that I can agree with per se with the other responses. The power steering pump pressurizes the fluid, and if there's too much fluid, it can (and will) ruin the seals. Then you'll have a permanent power steering fluid leak.

"...any major negative consequences if the reservoir is over-filled?"

    A puddle in your driveway.

Park on the street for a few days.

    "...gotta find the leak..."

Carry a quart or two of ATF in the trunk, and train little sister on filling the reservoir. No doubt she'll learn so well she'll get Bozo's job at the local gas station...

You mean they still have gas stations like that. It will not cause any problem with the excess fluid
